How are you really doing?

Writer: Kris MyersKris Myers

COVID sucks! We all have been affected by COVID in some way or another. Whether we've gotten the virus, our employment has been impacted, we have had to stay away from our loved ones, our vacations have been canceled. The list goes on and on.

But.... how are you doing? No really! How are you really doing? How have you been dealing with the repercussions of COVID? Let's be honest with ourselves. Truly honest. Because in the end, it all matters.

Have you been leaning on the bottle? Eating tons of candy? Does your COVID15 look more like COVID20? Is your anxiety getting worse? Are you making excuses and avoiding the reason for it? It's ok if you answered yes to any one of these questions.

Are you ready to take your life back? But you have struggled... I know. I'm here to help you debunk some of those struggles and help you get back to what you were before COVID (BC).

I spend all day on a computer, I don't want to join another Virtual meeting.

First, a virtual class is not a meeting. You don't have to talk to anyone. No one is going to talk over you. You don't have to interact with anyone. You won't be sitting in your chair just simply staring. Well, unless you choose to watch TV instead. A virtual CLASS is being active in the safety of your own environment. You don't have to think, you just have to show up, and I promise you will feel better when you're done. It starts with the first class.

The time doesn't work for me?

Most fitness instructors would be happy to record the class for you. Personal Trainers will create a program specifically for you whether virtually or recorded. For those of us that work in this industry, we are passionate about what we do and we want to see you be successful. Most of the time we are happy to take away your excuses in any way we can. Just ask.

I can't do that format?

I'm going to use Yoga as an example because I hear the most myths in this format. I can't do YOGA. Let me tell you all the reasons why you can.

  • I can't touch my toes - don't worry, you don't need to. If you can't touch your toes you should be taking a yoga class or stretching class of some sort. Maybe even a mobility class. Anything...

  • I don't have time - There's an old saying that says You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes every day — unless you're too busy. Then you should sit for an hour.” -Zen proverb. The point is that if you don't have time to take care of yourself, then you are going too hard, or you're making excuses. You need to try harder, it's not just your time, it's your health. It's the quality of your life your fighting for.

  • I don't have any yoga clothes - You don't need any. All of those high dollar yoga clothes are a ploy to spend your money. Now, don't get me wrong, I have spent a fair amount of money on yoga clothes because I like them, or I feel comfortable in them... But they are not necessary to practice yoga. Wear sweat pants, jogging pants, shorts, a t-shirt, tank top... you get the idea. You've been asking to wear these clothes all of your life. I'm giving you a reason.

  • It's too hard - everything in life takes work to learn, whether you are learning how to drive a car, deal with a challenging co-worker, write a paper on a subject you know nothing about. Everything in life takes practice, and yoga is no different. It can be hard, it's weird, you'll fall over. But you will learn more about yourself and find peace in your life because of it. Is that not worth it?

  • Yoga is for girls - NOPE again. 30% of the people who take my classes are male. Matter of fact, I have one class that is almost all men.

  • I'm not a skinny white chick - Good! Neither am I. Well, part of it is true. I'm a chick. Lol. There are plenty of skinny white chick classes, but there are also regular classes that fit regular people who come in all sizes and shapes. Finding the right class is key. You don't like mine, find another one. Yoga is for EVERYONE.

The point of debunking these myths is that it really applies to every format of exercise. Not just Yoga. We all need our health. Even more so with COVID running rampant. The only way that is going to happen is if we fight for it.

YOUR FEELINGS ARE REAL!

But they don't have to control you. The best antidote for anxiety is exercise. 70% of all doctor appointments are stress-related illnesses, exercise reduces stress. Obesity causes a wide variety of other health conditions that can be cured by good healthy choices. Exercise is for curing internal issues not losing weight. Losing weight is just a side effect of exercise, but shouldn't be the main reason you're doing it.

Got a myth that needs debunking? Hit me up. I'm happy to talk with you and help you get through your challenges. It doesn't have to be virtual. Pick your format.
